SafePave® - Structural Support for Stone (SSS-Stone)

Reinforcing for Natural Stone Tiles

Strength. Safety. Confidence.

SSS-Stone is a next-generation reinforcement and safety layer engineered specifically for natural stone tiles used on pedestal and raised-floor systems.

It creates a composite using the patented SafePave™ SPT2 tape bonded to a rigid aluminium composite board. When attached to the tile it creates a bonded backing layer that strengthens the stone, improves impact resistance, and prevents catastrophic failure.

The Problem

Natural stone delivers timeless beauty — but it’s inherently brittle.
In pedestal and raised-floor systems, even minor cracks or corner breaks can lead to:

  • Sudden tile breakthrough or collapse

  • Injury risk for building occupants

  • Costly repairs and liability exposure

  • Strict limitations on the thickness and size of the tiles

SafePave® - Structural Support for Stone was developed to solve these issues — permanently.

The SafePaveSolution

Combined with the flexible, high strength, impact absorbing SPT2, the high-strength aluminium composite backing dramatically increases flexural strength and fracture control, ensuring the tile remains safe and serviceable even after cracking.

Unlike other products, SSS-Stone works with the tile forming a strong composite. It doesn't change the aesthetics as it is fully bonded to the underside.

Key Features

Feature

Benefit

SPT2 - Pressure sensitive, modified acrylic, reinforcement tape

  • Bonds to 100% of the tile

  • Distributes stress

  • Resists fracture propagation

  • Peel and Stick application

  • Contains impact absorbing microcellular IXPE

  • Absorbs vibration

  • Contains 200gsm high tensile woven fibreglass

  • Creates a permanent waterproof bond to stone

  • Holds broken pieces together

Aluminium composite

  • Adds tensile strength and dimensional stability

  • Adds structural support

  • Prevents breakthrough

Each product combines to work with the tile to create a strong composite unit.

  • Can be driven on by light vehicles, even after cracking

  • Enables the use of thinner tiles.

  • Moisture & UV resistant

Applications

  • Rooftop terraces and podiums

  • Balcony and façade stone tiling

  • External and internal raised-access floors

  • Public walkways, courtyards, and plazas

  • Areas requiring safety and service continuity

Design Benefits

  • Enables use of thinner stone tiles (20 mm) with superior strength.

  • Reduces total system weight, easing structural loads.

  • Protects under deck services and membranes from damage.

  • Prevents breakthrough of broken tiles

  • Reduces risk of injury and damage

  • Compatible with porcelain, granite, marble, limestone, travertine and composite stone.

  • Simple to apply – peel, bond, and press installation method.

Compliance and Testing

SafePave® - Structural Support (SSS) aligns with the intent and performance expectations of:

  • AS 1170.1 – Structural design actions

  • ISO 10545-4 / AS 4459.4 – Breaking strength & modulus of rupture

  • ISO 10545-5 / ASTM C1870 – Impact resistance

  • EN 12825 – Raised access floor performance requirements

Tested to demonstrate compliance, safety, and superior post-crack performance.

Sustainability & Longevity

  • Reduces waste and replacement rates by preventing tile failure.

  • Allows safe reuse of lighter, thinner stone formats.

  • Extends service life of stone flooring installations.

Simple Application

  1. Clean: Wipe the stone back surface with isopropyl alcohol.

  2. Apply: Remove release liner and press SafePave® - (SSS-Stone) board firmly onto the tile.

  3. Press: Ensure full contact of the SPT2 by pressing firmly

  4. Install: Once applied, tile can be handled, cut, and installed as normal.
